Endogenous calcitonin gene-related peptide receptor (CGRP) agonist which is secreted in both peripheral and central neurons. It is a potent vasodilator and can function in the transmission of nociception as well as acting as an appetite suppressant and contributing to gastric acid secretion. It also has a function in temperature homeostasis, increases heart rate, and can play a role in the release of the pituitary hormone.
